A courageous adolescent was forced to make the life-saving choice to have his body severed in half.

According to accounts, Loren Schauers, 19, of Great Falls, Montana, was operating a forklift truck across a bridge when it suddenly collapsed and plunged 50 feet to the earth. The teen was left pinned beneath the four-ton vehicle.

While still awake, Loren saw as the truck clamped down the lower half of his torso and smashed his right arm.
